There are moments of brilliance at points, not for literary mastery it’s not meant to but the way it could move the reader so much. It was the latest in a long line of tragedies for one of the world’s best-known political dynasties. I am glad to have read this book – for it now gives Pakistan a flesh and blood – realistic experiences to tie with – making it impossible to hate or be apathetic to.

Murtaza fled Pakistan in after the Zia regime took power, and did not return until A definite five stars. Having avidly listened and adorned to her articulations, as a charming intellectual, her third book lingered on my bucket list for a while, and I finally decided to appraise her sogs important work so far. Also helps one understand why Pakistan is in the pits today – because there is so much corruption that the whole country stands at the mercy of a government that only concerns itself with making a buck out of every transaction, and blpod creating policies and rules to save itself from any and every attempt of being blamed, crippling the country and bringing it to its knees.

The author should also be commended on writing about events extremely personal and sobgs – to an extent that most of us can’t fathom. She clearly does not turn a critical eye towards her father or grandfather, and probably a too-critical eye towards her aunt, but reading this book should be seen as an important alternative view to the many defenders of Benazir Bhutto.


It contains detailed description of the emergence of ‘The Bhuttos’ as a Political force to reckon with in Pakistan and also includes the degradation and corruption which got imbibed in the Party structures later on. Fatima has authored the book well and she given a proud illusatration of Bhutto family, its royalty and past. Does it colour her version of events that followed?

Of course, Murtaza her father is not what she’d like us xnd believe, neither is he as angelic as she tries mighty hard to convince us, and at the same time, Benazir her aunt cannot be as fiendish as she’s portrayed her to be.
